Why He Started Better Builders

I wanted to give clients a better remodeling experience. So many people have negative experiences with people in the construction industry. I understand that a remodeling project is a big leap of faith for most of our clients. I work hard to make sure their experience with us is easy and based on honesty and integrity. At Better Builders, we pride ourselves on delivering projects on time and on budget. More importantly, we treat our clients the way we want to be treated.

Career Background

I began in the construction industry at age 15, working summers for a remodeling Contractor in a small town in Iowa where I grew up. After receiving my degree in Construction Engineering from Iowa State University, I moved out west and worked in commercial construction for a few years. However, I love residential home building and remodeling and soon found myself working with DreamCraft Homes, a production home builder that builds mostly in south King County. After nearly 16 years as Production Manager, and several thousand houses and many remodeling projects later, I started Better Builders.

Personal Interests

• Anything outdoors! I love boating, camping, fishing, hiking, and skiing
• Time spent with friends and family
• Cooking

It’s full of talented, passionate professionals in every role, and that combination makes it a really special place to be.

Career Background

Home renovation and new construction have been part of my life since the beginning. My great-grandfather, grandfather, and father were all carpenters, and I spent most of my life working with my dad on a wide range of extraordinary projects.

Over the years, I’ve taken on many roles—from carpenter and lead carpenter to project manager, production manager, project developer, and sales manager. In 2011, I moved from Kent, Ohio, to Seattle to join Better Builders, and it turned out to be a life-changing decision for my family and me. Today, I’m proud to be in an ownership role and continue the legacy of building with integrity and care.

Personal Interests 

When I’m not working, I love spending time with my wife and kids—whether we’re just hanging out at home or off on an adventure. I’m a big fan of the outdoors, and Jane and I often travel with our dogs, usually choosing destinations where we can hike, fish, bike, ski, or snowshoe. We like to mix things up and make the most of what nature has to offer.

I also really enjoy working with my hands. Designing and building custom furniture for friends and family gives me a creative outlet and helps me stay connected to the craft I’ve always loved.

Career Background

For over two decades, I have built a career centered around relationships, customer service, and creative problem-solving. I began in the food service industry doing hands-on work in the kitchen as a Dishwasher, Pantry Cook, Kitchen Support, Pastry Chef, and Store Manager. I shifted my focus to Food Distribution and Sales to learn and grow, where I discovered a deep love for supporting clients and crafting personalized solutions.

My roles evolved from Customer Service to Personal Sales Associate, District Sales Representative, and Territory Sales Consultant. Each position sharpened my ability to listen, communicate, and deliver excellence, skills I now bring to the world of home improvement. My background translates seamlessly across industries, enriching each client’s journey with an authentic, supportive experience.

Personal Interests

• Soaking up every moment as I watch my two daughters grow up (too fast!)

• Traveling for incredible food and live music adventures

• I also love staying in—cooking, creating, unwinding, and enjoying the stillness of home

My career has centered around helping organizations build strong teams and healthy workplaces. Over the past 15 years, I've worked in Human Resources, People Operations, and business operations across a variety of industries, partnering with leaders and employees to improve processes, support growth, and create positive workplace cultures.

Throughout my career, I've been known for bringing structure to complex challenges, whether that means streamlining operations, improving employee experiences, or helping teams navigate periods of change. Outside of work, I love exploring the Pacific Northwest with my dogs, whether that's camping, hiking, boogieboarding, or chasing sunsets with a camera in hand. I enjoy photography, dancing, baking sourdough, and hosting gatherings that bring people together. Whether I'm planning my next adventure or sharing a meal with friends, I value experiences that foster connection, creativity, and community.

Career Background 

I grew up on job sites with my father, who owned a drywall business, and being exposed to construction early on ignited my passion for building. This passion led me to study Mechanical Engineering at WWU, and since then, I've worked in Production and Operations Management roles for the last 10 years. I’m thrilled to bring my skills and experience to the Better Builders team!

Transitioning into remodeling allowed me to bring those strengths into a new space, where I can help homeowners turn their ideas into reality and create spaces that truly feel like home.

My career in construction began in 2002, working for a commercial broker in Colorado. Once I moved back to Washington, I took a job with Kingston Lumber and began working with another small General Contractor and master carpenter to develop my skills. Down the road, I started my own business doing carpentry and handyman work. I’m excited to join Better Builders for this next chapter in life!

I have worked in carpentry and other construction jobs for about 20 years. I’ve always been interested in carpentry because it's very rewarding to see something I've created using my own hands and my mind.
